Flimmer does not come with anything to watch. It is a player for a service you already pay for. You enter your provider's address and your own username and password, and Flimmer organises what that service gives it. We are not affiliated with any provider, we cannot create an account for you, and we cannot help you find one.
Connecting your provider
You need three things from whoever you subscribe to: a server
address, a username and a password.
Most providers email these out as a link that looks like
http://example.com:8080/get.php?username=…&password=… — paste
that whole link into the server field and Flimmer will fill in all three.
When it will not connect
Flimmer tries to tell you exactly which of the three is wrong rather than shrugging:
- “We couldn't find that server.” The address has a typo,
or is missing its port number. It usually looks like
http://name.example.com:8080. - “That server didn't answer.” The address resolved but refused the connection — check the port, or ask your provider whether the server is up.
- “Username or password is wrong.” The server is there and it answered; it just did not accept those details. They are usually case-sensitive.
- “This subscription has expired.” Exactly that, and Flimmer shows you the date it ran out.
Why the library takes a while to build the first time
A real provider's catalogue is enormous — hundreds of thousands of channels, films and episodes. Flimmer downloads it a category at a time, in the background, and stores it on your iPhone so that browsing and searching are instant afterwards and work with no signal at all. It picks up where it left off if you close the app, and it stays on Wi-Fi unless you tell it otherwise in Settings.
“Only one thing can play at a time”
Most subscriptions allow a limited number of simultaneous connections, and many allow exactly one. Flimmer reads that limit from your provider and shows it in Settings → Provider. When the limit is one, Flimmer also pauses building your library while you are watching something, so your stream gets the connection instead.
Something will not play
- Flimmer plays both the common video formats a provider serves, so most failures are the stream, not the app. Try another title to tell the two apart.
- If a live channel fails, the player offers to try the same channel's other stream format.
- If everything fails at once, check Settings → Provider → Check connection. An expired subscription looks like a broken app.
Adult categories
Providers routinely include them. Flimmer hides them on a fresh install, and a profile marked as a child's cannot see them at all, whatever the global setting says. The switch is in Settings → Library.
Deleting your account
Settings → Delete account erases your Flimmer account data immediately. If Apple is temporarily unavailable, an encrypted, unlinked revocation token may remain for a bounded retry period. See the privacy policy for the exact data and retention.
